May Favorites // Makeup
May was... interesting to say the least. At the start of the month, it was freezing and then we ended with record-breaking high's well into the 90-degree range here in NYC! It was crazy. I was able to wear all my faves all month which is a true testament to these fine fine products!
Kevyn Aucoin The Neo-Bronzer // Siena
I really don't know what else to say except feast your eyes on that picture. It's glorious. I'm not usually a fan of a one-pan palette where there are more than one color, but this is big enough and I love how it's ombre'd and not three distinct colors. All the subtleness between the three main shades have come in very useful since I've been using this on the eyes too!
And I've become a real sucker for the face palette. Gimme a highlighter, blush and bronze in one and I feel like I'm totally set for these summer months. I did purchase the other shade, Capri, which is cooler and pinkier, but this is the one I've been reaching for. I think when Autumn comes along, I'll be reaching for that one. The texture is amazing, it blends like a dream and the colors are very buildable. The swatches above are two swipes each.
Surratt Surreal Skin Foundation Wand // 3
To be perfectly honest, I snubbed this product when I first saw it. I'm not a fan of the built-in brush and only 0.5 oz of products comes in the tube for $65.
But when I saw Lisa Eldridge use it and like it, I figured I'd give it a shot. It's marketed as a medium to full coverage, but I think it's a solid medium coverage. You could build it up, but I don't think you'd want to. It gives the perfect blurry creaminess to the skin. It sits weightless and didn't budge all day. I was so impressed! It's creamy without being oily and I figured it would slip and slide a bit, but not at all. I even tried it one day only lightly powdering my t-zone, and my whole face still looked great at the end of a long day.
The colors seem to run a little darker than I would think. I'm usually a light-medium neutral, and this 3 is almost, just almost too dark. But it's great as my skin starts to get more sun. I wish I didn't love it so much, but it can't be denied. Maybe they'll get rid of that brush? I can stomach the price, but that brush... make it a pump!
Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Micro Powder // 1 Fair
I've been trying almost every loose powder in an attempt to find the least cakey appearance, and finally realized that I just have too heavy of a hand. I've never been one to wear powder, so it's going to take a little training! So I decided to try pressed powders since I can't possibly grab THAT much. I saw rave review after rave review on this powder, so I decided to give it a shot. I love it! It's great under the eyes; it's so silky and lightweight that even I can't overdo it. And who can deny that packaging. I feel so glamorous every time I whip that out!
Lipstick Queen // Nude Metal
Maybe I've been bombarding myself with too many matte liquid lipsticks, but I've been really attracted to metallic, shiny, golden lipsticks. And Lipstick Queen's Nude Metal has been my go-to. It's a light peach and has just the right amount of a metallic sheen. Since it's golden, it's not too frosty, which I'm not the biggest fan of. The texture is creamy, and the color is just pigmented enough. Not over the top, but definitely not sheer. It's been a great not-exactly-nude nude for me.
Marc Jacobs (P)outliner Longwear Lip Pencil // (Nude)ist
The perfect compliment to the Nude Metal has been this lip liner. Like all the Marc Jacobs products I've tried so far, I love it. It's smooth without being too soft and it has a twist-up mechanism so no sharpening! Every pencil needs to be twist up! I just love the shade too. A lot of nudes are either too mauve-y or too brown, and this one seems to strike the right inbetween note with a bit of peach.
Lancome Juicy Shaker // Show Me The Honey
And the perfect topper is this Lancome Juicy Shaker! When I first saw these on Tati's YouTube channel, I thought it was just a gimmicky product that was more about the packaging than the product. But I thought I'd give it a try since I have dry lips and an oil couldn't hurt. I have fallen madly in love. It's the combination of the moisturizing feel, the comfortable applicator, and the amazing hint of color it gives. It's been so awesome on top of lipstick and you just need a little dab in the middle of your lips. The scent isn't overwhelming at all, and I'm very sensitive to scents, so I was really pleasantly surprised. I have four other colors, but I've been reaching for this one the most. It looks great over the Nude Metal.
Oh, and it's the perfect size. Not too small, not too big. It's bigger than I thought (a little taller than a regular lipstick tube) which actually makes it very comfortable to hold. There isn't one thing I don't like about this product.
Glossier Boy Brow // Brown
I feel a little silly even mentioning this product, because this seems to be everyone's favorite brow product, but here I am... raving about it. It's simply perfect. The pomade is the perfect texture. It gives hold, but is far from crunchy. And the brown color is perfection. I have healthy-sized brows and my hair is dark, but not black black. And I usually have a very hard time finding the right shade. But this Brown is spot-on. And yes, that mini applicator is the perfect size. I cannot live without this anymore!
